Notice of Referendum

NOTICE OF REFERENDUM

TOWN OF AUBURN

NOVEMBER 6, 2018

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an election to be in the Town of Auburn on November 6, 2018, the following proposed ordinance of the Town Board will be submitted to a vote of the people:

That, pursuant to Wis. Stat 60.30(1e)(a), the combined office of town clerk and town treasurer shall be filled by appointment of a majority of the members-elect of the town board. The term of office for the clerk treasurer position shall be set by the town board, but may not exceed 3 years per Wi Statute 60.30(1e)©. The town board may re-appoint the officer for additional terms. However, removal of the town board during a given term of office may only be for “cause” as defined under 17.001 and required by 60.30(1e)(f).

The question will appear as follows:

“Shall the offices of the Town Clerk and Town Treasurer be combined and appointed by the Town Board?”

Explanation:  A “YES” vote would mean that the two positions for a clerk and a treasurer which we currently have, would be changed to a single position, filled by one person; and this position would be appointed by the Town Board.

A” NO” vote would mean the positions of clerk and treasurer would stay the same with two people fulfilling these positions and that both positions would be filled by candidates nominated at the caucus and elected by town residential voters.
